not before time, finally i can book out the last two LONDINIUM R from the batch that was completed some time ago
these production delays are not great, and i apologise for the frustration it has caused some of you - believe me your pain is shared as when things fall behind schedule i sit up until 2am trying to drive it forward and that is the way things have been for much of 2017
i am told that the third production line is being turned on next week and i have written to the managing director who is back from holiday next week to clarify what impact that will have on our current lead times as the status quo needs to change; we need to get stock sitting on the shelf for a pick & pack customer experience, as we had prior to launching the LONDINIUM R
anyway, both of these 120V machines will be collected by DHL today and wing their way to North America, one of which is going to my classmate from college who now owns the three Chocolate Fish cafes in Sacramento so if you live in the area look out for a new toy on their counter soon
ANCAP espresso cups to match the ANCAP competition cups we already have are working their way from Verona to Birmingham by truck, along with some cupping bowls if those are of interest
green coffee isnt going to be delivered until next week and that is sand in the gears too, but anyway i'll just have to be patient
dosing funnels are being produced and a sample is expected today as we have a second go at getting the laser etching the way i want it
making stuff is slow going sometimes, but these dosing funnels & distribution tools are going to make the biggest difference to your coffee on a per dollar spent basis than anything else you can buy; i guarantee that they will push your espresso making significantly up the curve to the extent that you will taste the difference in the cup from the first sip until the last drop. it delivers a consistency to your results that most people find elusive & frustrating to achieve
both of these machines are 120V versions
still on target for the next build to commence this friday
reiss.
UPDATE: quite annoyed that these two machines were not ready to despatch yesterday. i have been assured that they will be ready to go today, weds 10 may
new green coffee i hope to receive this friday
distribution tools are made up, awaiting completion of the dosing funnels
our dosing funnel & distribution tool will allow you to significantly improve the consistency of the shots you obtain from grinders of every level
my hope is that a grinder at the level of the Compak E5, where we do not currently offer a grinder as i feel the results are disappointing, will yield an acceptable shot of espresso
with this objective in mind i have ordered a Compak E5 and we will extensively test the distribution tool & funnel with it - if it measures up we will start offering the Compak E5 for customers who are seeking a grinder at that price point
our experiments to date have shown that tamping receives far too much attention relative to its impact on the shot (a tamper needs to be a snug fit for the basket and the tamp needs to be made level - that's it! all the rest is just fluff and does not deliver consistent improvements in the extraction), and secondly that even very expensive grinders will deliver poor results if the distribution of the grounds is inadequate
Hi Reiss,
Just a quick update on the Londinium R from my end.
I'm using my Londinium R for almost 2 months now and it has been a wonderful experience. The machine is beautiful, powerful and easy to use.
With my previous machine, I stayed away from the "fruity" beans, but with this machine I really can taste the fruity notes now. Amazing!
Thanks for building this wonderful machine!
Kind regards,
Costeijn.
Orders: 4150, 4156, 4177
booking them out now . reiss.
this weekend we are heading away to participate in the T42 for the first time
the website is here if you are interested in outdoor activities - http://totalsport.co.nz/portfolio/t42/
i have entered in the 24K run as marathons really arent my idea of a good time at all
very much looking forward to getting out into the New Zealand countryside as there is no point in living in New Zealand if you arent into outdoor activities, in my view
i expect to have internet connectivity and will be booking orders out on friday night new zealand time (friday uk time) as usual
i will also be available online as usual to answer questions, etc
parts keep flowing out the door in a timely manner
i have just booked out order 4136, an LR in 120V
there will be more 120V LR ready for me to book out tomorrow
the L1 will despatch either tomorrow or friday - it is currently on the test bench
the distribution tools have been made and tomorrow i will sign off the distribution funnel sample and produciton of the funnels will commence
the new coffee will clear in the next day or so and then its go go go to start profiling the coffee - a time consuming iterative process
so over the weekend the LONDINIUM I orders were built and are awaiting a slot on the test bench, so i would expect to book these out this Wednesday, 3 May
the Production Manager has advised just now that the next batch of LONDINIUM R will commence on Friday 12 May or Monday 15 May (they should take about a week to build)
i appreciate that some of you will be upset with this date - if you would like to cancel your order please get in touch and i will click the refund button for you - no one in the supply chain is slacking and we have no choice but to hobble through until June when the third production line will come on stream and increase the capacity of the plant
that is all the news i have for today
we now only have 120V LONDINIUM R to despatch from the current batch (the 240V machines have all been sent out at the end of last week)
these will be orders 4136, 4156, 4177, 4187, and one for Chocolate Fish Coffee roasters in Sacramento, USA and I expect to have at least two of these orders ready to despatch on weds, 3 May
we also need to build a long over due LONDINIUM I this week
i expect we will start building another batch next week which is not currently fully subscribed, so now would be as good a time to order as any if you are pondering your purchase decision
as always, if there are any quesitons please ask
kind regards
reiss.
so, it is pleasing to write that we are climbing out of our order backlog hole
i have just booked out an L3 for The Netherlands and an L2 for South Korea
I have also booked out 3 EU plugged LR
the 120V LR are not going to get a slot at the packing line until monday 1 may unfortunately
next week we also need to build L1s as we have some march orders for those that have not yet been , and i apologise profusely for this delay as we usually have the commercial machines on the shelf ready to despatch but we have stocked out and it has been very difficult to fight for a production slot
the ship with our coffee from Nordich Approach berthed yesterday, it should be devanned by monday 1 may, then 7-10 working days to pass through the customs process and then you have a chance to experience your londinium at its very best with coffees that i have selected and roasted just for your machine - no concessions have been made to how it might perform on any other espresso machine - these are londinium roasts expressly designed for your espresso machine
londinium distribution tool & funnel 15-20 May in stock
londinium espresso cups & cupping bowls expected first week of june
one day compak might release its new PKR/PKE/PKF range to market and we will be pushing hard to get these grinders in stock for you - in the interim i have ordered a small stock of 120V & 240V E8 redspeed. we no longer carry stock of E10 or R120s until we see exactly what Compak's refreshed product offering looks like. i have also ordered an E5 & E6 to undertake extensive perfromance testing with our 2018 LC machine as we need a less expensive grinder to pair with it. my plan is to hold both PKR & PKE in stock, but this is subject to the commercial details that Compak will at some point release; 6 months & counting i think...
so as you can see we are busy building a complete LONDINIUM espresso system - everything you need to make the best coffee in your town at your place
