Vodafone Sure Signal

by Reiss Gunson on Friday, 05 August 2011 02:14

This blog post isn't really about espresso, or indeed coffee, but I know a number of you have small businesses and run from buildings that suffer from very poor mobile phone coverage/signal strength, e.g. a metal roof.  This Sure Signal device from Vodafone is our good news story of the week.  It is plug and play straight out of the box and supports up to 24 (from memory) Voda-phones.  For a one-off charge of just GBP50 it provides a far more cost effective solution than the technology it replaces whereby you had to put an aerial on the roof and feed a wire down to an internal repeater; no thanks.

I'm sure the other mobile providers offer something similar.

So here it is; from no signal whatsoever to a full 5 bars of 3G signal strength (albeit my phone in the image below has the wireless activated so the 3G icon has been usurped by the wireless icon).

Just out of the box.

Ponte Vecchio 2 group Lusso and Export now available

by Reiss Gunson on Saturday, 30 July 2011 10:59

We have to admit to being slightly caught out with our Ponte Vecchio machines arriving unexpectedly early from Italy today; we never expected to see them until late next week.

Get in touch if you would like to come and play with either the 1 group 'Export' model or the 2 group 'Lusso' model.

We've only had time to unplug the 2 group Lusso so far, filling it up and pulling a few shots.  As both these machines are spring levers it is incredibly easy to get great espresso shortly after getting them out of the box.  We are also impressed with the build quality considering the price point that these machines sit at.

The Export is unique in offering a small footprint, a spring lever, and a low price point.  The Lusso is unique in bringing you a 2 group machine with an incredibly small footprint at a very reasonable price.  We were very pleasantly surprised by how sturdy and rigid the spring levers with no 'play' in the mechanism.

The arrival of the Ponte Vecchio gives Londinium Espresso a range of lever machines for every application from the Bacchi, for producing exceptional espresso in low volumes, right through to the monstrous beast that is the 5 group Bosco spring lever commercial machine.

We trust this move underlines our belief in lever espresso machines as being superior to electric pump machines in every regard, from the out and out quality of the espresso produced, through to the reliability and ease of maintenance, all adding up to a greatly reduced total cost of ownership.

Come and try them at your leisure.

Thank you America

by Reiss Gunson on Thursday, 21 July 2011 11:17

Last month we enjoyed a step up in sales all over North America.  If you order before you go to sleep on Sunday night anywhere in the United States of America or Canada, we can get your order to you before the end of the week in most cases.  If you are fanatical about espresso, we have everything you need to get to espresso nirvana.  Just don't ask us about latte art; we don't have a clue!

2nd generation Londinium Espresso Ancap cups shipped from Italy yesterday

We will see them before the end of the week?

As discussed at length in a previous post, we can't believe how much better these cups make the espresso taste.  It keeps the espresso together, giving it a denser mouth feel and keeping it at the correct temperature for longer

Tip:  if you pre-heat your espresso cups by pouring hot water into them, we suggest that you only half fill them with hot water.  In this way the lower half of the cup heats up nicely, yet the upper section that your lips make contact with will stay acceptably cool

Eureka Mignon doserless espresso grinder

by Reiss Gunson on Wednesday, 06 July 2011 09:41

Very impressed with the Eureka grinder.  It is very quiet and smooth and the adjustments for the grind and timer are a pleasure to use as you don't have to twist them very far to effect a significant amount of change.  The grind quality is very good, and whilst we haven't yet run hundreds of back to back shots against the Mazzer mini electronic I have no hesitation in saying the drop in taste isnt like walking off a cliff.  I don't doubt we will come to appreciate a difference in time, but it certainly isn't night and day.  Off course the Mazzer is built like a tank and it will most likely out-live anyone who buys one, but we are proud to be selling the Eureka doserless as it brings a great espresso grinder within the reach of a lot more people.

Personally we love the art deco look of the Eureka and consider it to be the best looking espresso grinder on the market.  The knurled solid aluminium knob that adjusts the coarseness of the grind is a thing of beauty to behold and the tactile sense it imparts makes it even more of a pleasure to use; a sense of industrial sturdiness that is near extinct in the consumer grade junk that is so prevalent in our times.

We have no reservations in offering this exceptional espresso grinder at what we think is a very reasonable price for the grind quality that it offers.  The key fact for any grinder is the speed at which it turns, slower being better.  The Eureka mignon turns at just 1350rpm which is exceptional for this class of flat burr grinder.
