This and the Daterra Reserve are our favourite Daterra coffee that we’ve tried to date.

Now that we have finally hit the sweet spot for roasting this coffee we are achieving a wonderful balance in the cup. This coffee is very intolerant of sloppy roasting – slightly too high or too low and it tastes very average indeed. This coffee exhibits wonderful tobacco notes; a real man’s espresso, if that’s not too sexist.

Unlike many of Daterra’s coffees this one is shipped in a breathable, environmentally friendly jute bag, as opposed to the vacuum packed foil bags that are very much the order of the day. We have a strong preference for this traditional packaging as we believe it allows the coffee to age progressively, which is critically important for espresso.

As always, we implore you to at least try our coffee without milk (or sugar) first to really appreciate the unique characteristics of each roast.

To get the best out of this coffee at home you are really going to have to work your machine quite hard, grind fairly fine and tamp quite firmly. You need to be just inside over-extracting the coffee; if the water passes through this coffee to easily it produces a rather unpleasant espresso; make it work to get through to your cup and you will get a wonderful result.
