You are purchasing ONE LONDINIUM custom piston seal (there are three of these seals on the piston)

You can lever the shower screen out carefully with the use of a nice new flat bladed screwdriver that still has square edges on the face placed on the press line on the side of the shower plate and using the notch cut in the bottom of the group to accomodate the PF lug as a fulcrum for the screwdriver. Alternate left and right side of the group with the screwdriver to get the shower plate completely off

You can use any of the proprietary products for removing coffee tannins from the shower plate and then it should be ready to re-use.  If the shower plate is fouled with silicone grease you will need to use surgical alcohol or similar to remove the silicone completely from the shower plate

We suggest you use a razor blade to put a single cut in each of the old v-seals on the group and remove them that way

I use two allen keys of about 3 - 4mm in size as 'railway tracks' to facilitate to smooth passage of the first and second seals that you fit over the seal grooves of the second and third seals respectively - if you allow the new seals to drop down into a seal groove for another seal it is a real pain; stop this from occuring with the two allen keys and fit the top-most seal first and the bottom-most seal last

Once the new L-seals are in place you need to lube the bore.  The entire surface of the bore needs a very thin film of silcone grease on it.  With the shower plate still removed carefully pump the lever 20-30 times to drive the excess lube to the bottom of the group where and excess silicone grease can be wiped clean

Portafilter seal - care & usage

Keep the portafilter attached to the group when the machine is on, but remove the portafilter from the group when the machine is off. This gives the portafilter seal a chance to return to its original, uncompressed state, ensuring it lasts longer

As an aside, you should only need to turn the portafilter 30 to 45 degrees to the right (to the 6 o'clock position) to secure it when the seals are in good condition. Wrenching the portafilter handle further to the right than it needs to go will only serve to shorten the life of the seal

Similarly, be sure to wipe the entire circumference of the portafilter basket of coffee grinds before securing to the group; coffee grinds cut into seals like glass when under compression, drastically reducing seal life
