Londinium coffee roasters

Costa Rican coffee decaffeinated by the Swiss Water Process

The best decaf you EVER tasted or your money back.  You can serve this coffee with confidence to those who do not drink decaf & your deception will go undetected. Obviously the caffeine kick will not arrive afterwards, but it will not be found out on the basis of taste. It really is that good. A world away from any decaf that may have crossed your lips in the past.

We recognise that some of our customers are caffeine sensitive and they should still be able to enjoy exceptionally good coffee. This roast meets that need.  We expect that this roast will make a significant contribution to challenging the accepted view that decaffeinated coffees are by definition of poor quality & taste.

This coffee has been decaffeinated using the Swiss water process (SWP), which is regarded as the premium method of decaffeination.

Under SWP a batch of green beans is soaked in hot water, releasing caffeine. This process continues until all the caffeine and coffee solids are released into the water. These beans are then discarded. Next, the water passes through a carbon filter which traps the caffeine molecules but allows the water and the coffee solids to pass through. The caffeine-free water which comes through, known as “flavour-charged” water, is then put in a similar filtration device, and new coffee beans are added. However, since the flavour-charged water cannot remove any of the coffee solids from the new beans, only the caffeine is released. The process repeats, filtering out all the caffeine until the beans are 99.9% caffeine free. These beans are removed and dried, and thus retain most if not all of their flavour and smell.

Every bag of Londinium coffee declares the roast date.

To enjoy our coffee at its optimum we recommend that you do not open the bag for 7-10 days after the roast date.

This works well for our international customers as the coffee improves on the journey, arriving in places as far away as New Zealand 7-10 days after roasting in peak condition.
